Back to Basics
The first newspaper ever recorded was written by the Romans in 59 BCE. However, the 'modern' newspaper as we know it today was established in Germany in 1605. A lot has changed in this time but the need for printed news is still alive and unlike most millenials, print media is what I know best. Contrary to popular belief, there still is a market for printed newspapers. They're for the small-town residents who are truly invested in their community, they're for the students who are giddy about seeing their photo in the paper, and they're meant to highlight things that make communities great and spread an unbiased truth. In an age where there's no slowing down or turning off, reading a newspaper is almost like coming home. I'm proud to say that I have spent most of my writing career as a Newspaper journalist and will most likely continue to do so.

A change in name but not in mission
Now known as the LaPorte County Herald-Dispatch, this newspaper in Michigan City, IN was known as The News Dispatch for 92 years before merging with their sister paper, The LaPorte County Herald Argus, in August of 2020. While their name may have changed, their mission didn't. The LaPorte County Herald Dispatch is and always has been dedicated to providing the Michigan City, La Porte, Portage, and Westville with accurate, local stories that catch the attention of its readers.
Local News at its finest
Printed out of the same Newsroom as the LaPorte County Herald Dispatch, Harbor Country News is distributed throughout the Southwest Michigan area. During my time there, my beat was mainly local politics in New Buffalo, Michigan, and city events in surrounding communities. Harbor Country News is distributed in New Buffalo, Union Pier, Three Oaks, Sawyer, Bridgman, Baroda, Lakeside and Herbert, Michigan. Like its sister paper, Harbor Country's mission is to provide accurate information about what is going on in the reader's community.
Celebrating 40 years

All of what you want to see and more
Now-a-days nearly all online publications require you to pay a fee to see all their content.
Unfortunately, that includes The Laporte County Herald-Dispatch. But you're in luck! In addition to articles that were also published in The Associated Press, via The Laporte County Herald-Dispatch, I have created a secondary blog where you can read all of my
content that they don't want you to see.
All links to the original articles will be listed at the end of each story.
I also have taken most of the photos that are shown in the articles. In addition to feature articles, here you will find stories about local schools, city government, community events, causes, advocacy, and legal issues.
I hope you browse through and enjoy all that I have to offer.
